Shri Piyush Goyal reviews Coal, Power, New and Renewable Energy Sector Development in Odisha 

Union Minister Stresses on timely Completion of Rural Electrification Under Ddugjy; Advises Odisha Govt. to focus more on LED Lighting to Save Energy 


Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of State (IC) for Coal, Power and New and Renewable Energy has urged the State Government to expedite the Rural Electrification work in a time bound manner and the work should be qualitative. He asked the power utilities of the state to be more quality conscious and review the progress of electrification work on weekly basis. He stressed on installing high standard transformers in rural areas for uninterrupted power supply. 

Reviewing the progress of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana( DDGJY) in Odisha, Shri Goyal has said that, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has fixed a time line to electrify all the un-electrified villages in the country in 1000-days. The Odisha government officials have informed Shri Goyal that, they have targeted to complete the electrification work by June 2016 in the state. It was learnt from the review meeting that, the consumer base in Odisha has touched to 58 lakh households till March 2015. Another 35 lakh consumers will be added in the next 3 to 4 years. So keeping this in mind, the state government should undertake system strengthening in a time bound manner, said Shri Goyal. 

Shri Goyal has advised the state government to explore the opportunity of linking Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Accounts with consumers billing. He has assured the state government to provide all necessary funds and assistance under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana for strengthening power infrastructure, feeder separation and modernization of transformers in rural areas. He said total upgradation of power system is highly needed for reducing transmission and distribution loss in the state. The Minister has urged the Odisha government to focus more on Solar Power particularly LED lighting system to save energy bill. 

While being present in the review meeting, the Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Dharmendra Pradhan had urged the state power utilities to reduce drastically the transmission and distribution loss to a basic minimum level which is as high as 38% in the state. Shri Pradhan has asked the state energy department to launch a pilot project for digitized payment of electricity bills which can be a test case for the state as well as entire country under Digital India Initiative. 

During the review meeting, Shri Goyal has stressed on timely completion of power projects being promoted by Independent Power Producers in the state. He also asked Mahanadi Coalfield Ltd. to expedite the doubling of railway lines in coal belt areas of the state for better evacuation of coal to power plants. Even merry-go-round transportation corridors should be completed expeditiously. 

Shri Goyal also discussed on coal linkage to proposed Gajamara Plant being promoted by NTPC. 

The Union Minister has reviewed the coal, power, new and renewable energy sector development in the state with the state Energy Minister Shri Pranab Prakash Das and high ranking officials of Centre and State Government, NTPC, MCL and Power Utilities of the State. During the review meeting, a power point presentation on the development of energy sector in Odisha was made before Shri Goyal.

Odisha Chief Minister lays Foundation of Mahanadi Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Talcher, Odisha 

Shri Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister of Odisha, today laid the foundation stone of Mahanadi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (MIMSR) , a Rs 492 crore CSR project of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), in Talcher Coalfields of Odisha. 

The foundation stone of ambitious CSR project in the country’s largest coalfield by a coal CPSU was laid in the august presence of Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of State (IC) for Coal, Power and New & Renewable Energy and Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of State (IC) for Petroleum & Natural Gas. Shri Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, Health and Family Welfare Minister, Government of Odisha, Shri Tathagata Satpathy, MP, Dhenkanal constituency and Shri Braja Kishore Pradhan, MLA, Talcher constituency were among the distinguished people present at the ceremony, which was witnessed by a large gathering of people of peripheral areas of MCL. 

The MIMSR will have a 100-seat medical college with 500 bedded multi-specialty Hospital with the state-of-the-art medical facilities in Anatomy, Bio-chemistry, Micro-Biology, Physiology, FM, toxicology, Pharmacology, Pathology, Community Medicine, Laboratory and Library. 

The project envisages a hostel for 300 boys, a separate hostel for 200 girl students, two blocks of Hostel for 100 interns, a hostel for 57 junior resident doctors and a 50-bedded nurses’ hostel. 

It also includes separate 42 flats for faculty members, and higher accommodation facility for professors and the head of the institution. 

Planned on the Smart and Green Concept with Building Management System by public sector construction major National Building Construction Corporation Ltd. (NBCC), the MIMSR campus would also have a modern Gym, Guest House and Shopping arcade. 

MCL CMD Shri A N Sahay, Director (Technical/Operations) Shri A K Tiwari, Chief Vigilance Officer Shri Deepak Srivastava, Director (Technical/Projects & Planning) Shri J P Singh, Director (Personnel) Shri P C Panigrahi and Director (Finance) Shri K K Parida were prominent among large number of company’s senior officers present on the occasion.

Shri Piyush Goyal & Shri Dharamendra Pradhan Inaugurates Multi Skill Development Centre in Talcher Odisha 

Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of State(IC) for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy and Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of State (IC) for Petroleum & Natural Gas today inaugurated Multi Skill Development Centre at NTPC Talcher Kaniha, Odisha in presence of Shri Sanjay Kumar Das Burma, Minister of State, Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare, Employment and Technical Education & Training,Govt of Odisha ,Shri A K Jha ,CMD,NTPC Limited and Shri U P Pani,Director (HR). 

"The multi-skill development centre is a long standing requirement of Odisha. This Centre will provide skill training in different trades keeping in view the requirement of local industries," Shri Goyal said, adding that the centre would be funded by the central government. 

NTPC is supporting the skills development initiative of the Government of India, in line with SKILL INDIA MISSION, by partnering with the Central and State governments to improve the availability and quality of skilled workforce by upgrading/ transforming infrastructure and the quality of vocational education in the country in order to make it demand driven and ensure better employability of the skilled youth. 

Talcher Kaniha in Angul District of Odisha state is one of the locations that have been identified to establish a Multi Skill Centre in collaboration with Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). 

The Multi Skill Centre is being set up with the objective to prepare the people of this backward region/ area more skillful, industry ready so that they can earn their livelihood in a better way and live with their dignified life in the society. NSDC and its training partner M/S GRAS Education and Training Services Private Limited (“GRAS Academy”), will setup a Multi-Skill Centre at Talcher to provide skill training to youths and women belonging to the Angul district and other parts of the state of Odisha. 

The NTPC-Talcher unit has provided the space/ building to NSDC to setup a Multi Skill Centre. The NSDC & its Training Partner will setup classrooms and computer lab, etc with all required machinery & equipments, trainers, etc required to impart training in courses that are recognized by National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF).
