The cultural extravaganza continued on the fourth
day of the ongoing Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav at IGNCA in New Delhi today.
The Union Minister for External Affairs and Overseas Indian Affairs, Smt Sushma
Swaraj was the chief guest at the festival today and was welcomed by the
Minister of State for Culture (Independent Charge), Tourism (Independent
Charge) and Civil Aviation, Dr Mahesh Sharma. The Member of Parliament, Smt.
Minakshi Lekhi and other prominent dignitaries also graced the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Sushma Swaraj said that Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav inspires interest in the diversity of Indian culture. The performances, cuisine and handicrafts reflect the multi colors of Indian culture and heritage. She said that the people from abroad are more curious to know about India. India has a long history of Art and Culture which must be taken to various parts of the world with the help of the Cultural Centres, she added. Smt. Swaraj congratulated Dr Mahesh Sharma & officials of the Ministry of Culture for their endeavor in showcasing the Indian culture on such a large scale and helping to preserve it.
Dr Mahesh Sharma said that the Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav is a glimpse of unity in diversity. It’s an effort to bring together the rich Indian culture from various parts of India under the one roof in the form of festival in Delhi. It has been organized to popularize the strenghts of India’s culture - be it art, artisans, dance, handicrafts or unique flavours from across the nation. The Minister said the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi and the External Affairs Minister Smt Sushma Swaraj have played an important role to promote Indian culture and heritage across the globe.
The fourth day started with ‘Best from the Waste’ Competition and ‘Puppetry Workshop’. 7 Aangans by the Zonal Cultural Centres(ZCC’s) showcased a range of artifacts, handicrafts like Haveli paintings from Punjab, Rogan artworks from Gujarat, Banaras silk, Kalamkari (hand-painted or block-printed cotton textile), Tanjore paintings and many more.
The evening witnessed high energy & intensity filled performances by artists from South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur and South Central Zone Cultural Centre, Nagpur including art forms like Karagam and Kavadi, Dummy Horse and Nyandimelam from Tamil Nadu, Oppanna Thiruvathirakali and Margamkali from Kerala, Poojakunitha and Veerabhadra from Karnataka, Veeraye Veera Nadanam, Kudakoothu and Kaaliattam from Puducherry, Mathuri & Dhimsa from Telangana, Panthi Dance from Chhatisgarh, Songi Mukhawate, Laizim, Shiv Dhol from Maharashtra, Badhi, Gudum Baja, Rai from Madhya Pradesh, Gaur Maria, Bastar Band from Chhatisgarh.
The event witnessed a live soulful performance by the renowned Indian singer Roop Kumar Rathod and Sunali Rathod.
The 8 days of most diverse and first of its kind festival was inaugurated on 1st November, 2015 at the IGNCA, New Delhi.
