Indian Railway Commissions Electrification of Ghaziabad-Moradabad Section
Varanasi and Lucknow Via Moradabad is Now Connected Seamlessly to Delhi on Electric Traction
Benefits of Faster Movement of Passenger Trains and Higher Traffic Throughput

Indian Railway achieved another significant milestone by the commissioning the electrification 140 Kilometre route of Ghaziabad-Moradabad section on 19.01.2016. The project for electrification was sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs. 155 Crore.  The route serves as an important link between Delhi-Howrah main line and Ambala-Lucknow-Mughalsarai ‘B’ route of Indian Railways. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Moradabad-Lucknow-Sultanpur-Varanasi-Mughalsarai route is in fact an alternate rail link bypassing the super saturated Delhi-Kanpur-Allahabad-Mughalsarai section. This will result in faster movement of passenger carrying trains and higher traffic throughput on Varanasi-Lucknow-Moradabad-Delhi route.  Introduction of Main Line EMU (MEMU) trains on Ghaziabad-Moradabad section will also provide faster rail link between Delhi, and Ghaziabad to the towns and rural centres in Western UP.
Faster movement of freight trains on electric traction will help the agricultural produces, sugar industry, and craft industry of Uttar Pradesh to have better rail link to the rest of the country and boost the economy of the State.
Passenger train operation on electric traction started in Moradabad-Lucknow section from 20.03.2013 and in Lucknow-Mughalsarai section from 21.03.2013. With completion of electrification of Ghaziabad-Moradabad section, now Varanasi and Lucknow via Moradabad will be connected seamlessly to Delhi on electric traction.

Mahamana Express about to be flagged off by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is the first Mail Express train on this Electrified route.
