100th successful Mega Camp for distribution of Aids and Assistive Devices for Persons with Disabilities, conducted by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment 
The mega distribution camp held in Amravati today, marked the 100thsuch ADIP Camp for distribution of Aids and assistive devices, conducted in the past one and a half-year period, under the aegis of Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
Central government has recognized persons with disabilities as an integral part of human resources and is committed towards rehabilitating Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in the country. In a continuing endeavor to achieve the above objective, DEPwD and theDistrict Disabled Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC), Amravati, Maharashtra conducted this Centenary Camp at theSant Gadge Maharaj Vidyalaya, Amaravati. Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Shri Pravin Pote, Industry, Tourism and Guardian Minister of Amravati, Govt. of Maharashtra;Shri Anandrao Adsul, Member of Parliament, Amravati, also graced the occasion.


Speaking on the occasion of the Centenary Camp being held under his Ministry, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot expressed his happiness over the success of such ADIP Camps which have positively equipped over 3, 75,000 beneficiaries over the past one and a half-year period. Elucidating on the significance of this Camp, Shri Gehlot announced that the Ministry plans to launch the nation-wide Unique Disability Identity Card (UDID) Project from Amravati district, this year. He also added that needy beneficiaries in Amravati will also soon be provided with state-of-the-art motorized tricycles. Emphasizing on the need to popularize various Scholarships schemes devised by the Department for students with disabilities, the Union Minster also highlighted the wonders of life-changing cochlear implants received by young children, under such ADIP Camps. He added that the success of these ADIP Camps have brought in much needed transparency to the delivery system with benefits now directly reaching the precise beneficiaries. He also informed the audience that such ADIP Camps also facilitated on-the-spot registrations for PwDs who were earlier unable to obtain their disability certificates.

DDRC, Amravati, had earlier organized a special screening camp on 23 Jan. 2015, to pre-identify and screen beneficiaries with the help of ALIMCO. A total of 950 PwDs were then registered as prospective beneficiaries after medical assessment of percentage and type of disability, by a team of experts.

A total of 1044 Aids and devices, worth Rs 60 Lakhs were distributed on this occasion and they included – Tricycles (99 nos.), Wheelchairs (28 nos.), BTE Hearing Aid (616 nos.), Blind Cane (11nos.), Calipers (46nos.), Crutches (86nos.), MR Kit (58nos.), Senior Citizens Walking Stick (40nos.), Blind Education Kit (8nos.), Braille Slate (2nos.) and prosthetic limbs (50 nos.).

A competitive exam coaching/guidance centre for persons with disability, to be administered by DDRC Amravati, was also inaugurated at the venue of the distribution camp today. This Centre will provide all necessary academic assistance to students with disability who wish to scale new heights and contribute towards the society by mastering competitive exams and being part of the administrative mainstream.
