Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to Interact with School Students on The Eve of Teachers Day

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to Interact with School Students on The Eve of Teachers Day 

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi shall be addressing the school children tomorrow from 10.00 AM to 11.15 AM at New Delhi on the eve of Teachers Day.  800 students and 60 teachers from schools of Delhi would participate in person whereas several talented children from across the country who have excelled in various activities shall interact with the Prime Minister on video conferencing mode from nine different locations.  School children all over the country will be viewing or listening to the live telecast.


The Prime Minister will also release a commemorative coin of Rs. 125/- denomination and a circulation coin of Rs. 10/- denomination in the honour of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the great educationist, teacher and philosopher, on the eve of his birth anniversary. He will also launch the website for Kala Utsav, which is an initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to promote art in education by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talent of school students at the secondary stage in 4 areas, i.e, visual arts, music, dance and theatre.

Smt Smriti Irani, the Union Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD), Shri Upendra Kushwaha, Minister of State for HRD (School Education & Literacy), Prof (Dr) Ram Shankar Katheria, Minister of State for HRD (Higher Education) and Sh Jayant Sinha, the Minister of State for Finance will be present during the function.

The programme will be telecast live on Doordarshan (DD National and DD India) and will be broadcast live on All India Radio. The program will also be webcast on http://pmindiawebcast.nic.in,

The State Governments have been requested to make necessary arrangements in schools to enable students to have the opportunity to view and hear the Prime Minister’s interaction with students.  It is expected that large number of children in different parts of the country including remote locations, would have the opportunity to view and hear the Prime Minister’s interaction on this occasion.

Union Human Resource Development Minister Honours Teachers and Mentors 

The Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Smt Smriti Irani felicitated Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) teachers and mentors for their contribution in the field of education as an acknowledgement of the role and impact of the teachers in shaping the future generations, in a function held in New Delhi today. The Union Minister congratulated all the awardees and said that their contribution in nation building and liberating generations is unparalleled. Teachers are truly the pride of a nation, she said. 

Smt Smriti Irani suggested the CBSE to introduce some new categories for awarding the teachers. These categories include (a) Teacher who promotes performing arts; (b) One who brings change in rural India and motivates people for nation building; and (c) One who takes teaching beyond the boundaries of syllabus and inspires students for innovation. 

She also called upon CBSE to collect feedback from students regarding their suggestions for improvement in the education system and submit the same for consideration by Ministry of Human Resource Development by mid November so that their input may be utilized while framing new education policy. She also directed CBSE to compile important suggestions, views and thoughts during PM’s interaction with students to be held tomorrow and submit the same to the Ministry. 

Minister of State (Higher Education) Dr. Ram Shankar Katheria addressing the gathering said that teachers play an important role in making the students self-reliant. 

On this occasion Secretary, School Education & Literacy, Dr. Subhash Chandra Khuntia, Joint Secretary (AE&NLMA) & Chairman CBSE Shri Y.S.K. Seshu Kumar and several other distinguished dignitaries and representatives of NVS, KVS and Government Schools were present. 

Thirty Four teachers from across the country and abroad were conferred CBSE award for their innovations in classroom teaching. The selection of the awardees is based on the academic efficiency and desire for improvement, genuine interest and reputation in the community, love for children, perseverance and commitment towards the field of education. 

Sixteen Mentors were awarded for collaboration and handholding through regular visits to clusters of schools for promoting quality. The Mentors awards recognize Principals who go an extra mile in their endeavour to promote excellence. This award consists of a Merit certificate, a shawl and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/-.
