ORDER:

                    In the reference read above the Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, A.P., Hyderabad has stated that 2nd October is the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. Every year 2nd October is being celebrated as “Prisoners Welfare Day” in all Prisons of Andhra Pradesh as a mark of respect to our Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. As this is an important event, various competitions in sports, games, essay writing and other events are being organized for the benefit of Prisoners. Well known dignitaries like District Collectors, District Judges and prominent persons like

reputed Doctors, Social Workers and Political leaders will be invited on this occasion. Prizes are also distributed to prisoners who are adjudged as winners in various events.

2. Further, the DG Prisons has requested the Government to include “Prisoners Welfare Day” which falls on 2nd October, every year (Mahatma Gandhi Birthday) under Rule 397 of A.P. Prison Rules, 1979 and to provide Special Diet to the all classes Prisoners confined in the Andhra Pradesh Prisons.

3. After careful examination of the matter, Government hereby accord sanction to include “Prisoners Welfare Day” which falls on 2nd October, every year (Mahatma Gandhi Birthday) under Rule 397 of A.P. Prison Rules, 1979 and to provide Special Diet to the all classes Prisoners confined in the Andhra Pradesh Prisons.

4. The Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, A.P., Hyderabad is permitted to meet the expenditure for the Special Diet on account of “Prisoners Welfare Day” from the available budget under the Head of Account “2056 Jails – 101 – Jails SH (04) Jails – 230 Diet Charges.

5. The Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, A.P., Hyderabad shall take further necessary action in the matter.

6. This order issues with the concurrence of the Finance (MU.H&C) Department vide their U.O.No.19883/416/ MU.H&C/2015, Dt: 30.09.2015.
