Commercial Flights to Operate from Arakkonam for Next Two Days
Evacuation operations are on at the Chennai airport,
with over a thousand stranded passengers having been rescued. The remaining 150
passengers will be rescued by tomorrow morning. Some of the evacuated
passengers have been sent by road to Bangalore while some others have been
flown out from the nearby Rajali Naval Air base at Arakkonam. Minister of State
for Civil Aviation and Tourism & Culture (I/C) Dr Mahesh Sharma gave this
information in a press conference in New Delhi this evening.
The Minister also informed that it has been decided to start limited commercial flight operations from Rajali Naval Air base from tomorrow. Air India and some private airlines have agreed to operate 6 flights from Arakkonam tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. Rs. 1000/ as fare will be charged for travelling to southern states and Rs. 2000/ will be charged for northern states. Manual ticketing for the flights will be done at the Rajali Naval Air base .Passengers can carry only hand baggage in these flights, check-in baggage will not be allowed. Railways will operate shuttle services from Chennai Beach station to Arakkonam. The flight details of these limited sorties will be available on DGCA website.

Re-Carpeting
of Calicut International Airport
The work of strengthening and re-carpeting of the
runway at Calicut International Airport has started on 18th September, 2015.
The work is expected to be complete in 18 months at an estimated cost of

Authority of India to Recruit 400 ATCs
Airports Authority of India has initiated process of
recruitment to 400 posts of Jr. Executive (ATCs) in September, 2015 with
scheduled completion in March, 2016. The existing strength of Air Traffic
Control Officers (ATCOs) at AAI is 2296 against the sanctioned strength of

Acquisition
of Boeing Aircraft
Air India Charters Limited has contracted for the
lease of six B-737-800 NG aircraft for delivery between March and November
2016.
Air India Express has already undertaken recruitment exercise to recruit cabin crew for its enchanced fleet and 150 candidates have been shortlisted for appointment on fixed term contract basis, as airline attendant.

Air
India Targets Operating Profit
Air India is targeting an Operating Profit of Rs. 6.20 crores as per the
Budget Estimates of Financial Year 2015-16. The details of the same are
as follows:

The airline is also targeting Passenger Revenue of Rs.17017 crores
in the Budget Estimates for Financial Year 2015-16 as compared to the Passenger

increase of 7.75%.
Air India has taken the following steps to improve the current
seat occupancy in the First Class and Business Class:
i)
Offering attractive fares in the First Class and Business Class.
ii) e
Super Saver Scheme for Business Class on www.airindia.in.
iii)
Upgrade from Economy to Executive Class and Executive to First Class with the
'Get Upfront Offer' at the airport at nominal charge, to prevent last minute
seat spoilage.
iv) Short
term cut and pay incentive scheme for travel agents in India for First and
Business Class.

MoU
on Air Services Between India and Republic of Korea
A
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Ministry of Civil
Aviation, Government of India and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and
Transport of the Government of Republic of Korea on 15th October, 2015 at New
Delhi giving effect to the following:
(i) Enhancement in capacity entitlements from 6 services to 19 services per week for the designated carriers of India as well as Republic of Korea.
(ii) Grant of two additional points of call in India - Chennai and Bangalore for the designated carriers of Republic of Korea.
(iii) Grant of two additional beyond points of call - Seattle and Vancouver for the designated carriers of India
(iv) grant of additional intermediate points of call - Ho-chi-Minh city for the designated carriers of both sides.
(v) Both sides agreed to allow domestic code-share to any four points in their respective countries.
Under agreed provision, designated carriers of both sides are eligible to make operations on India - Republic of Korea route subject to permission granted by respective Governments.

Rajiv
Gandhi Aviation University to Commence Session in FY 2016-17
The Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University at
Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Academy Complex, Fursatganj, Raebareli in Uttar
Pradesh is scheduled to commence its academic session in FY 2016-17. The
university was planned as an autonomous body under the administrative control
of Ministry of Civil Aviation with the aim to facilitate and promote aviation
studies, teaching, training, research and extension work with focus on emerging
areas of studies such as aviation management, aviation regulation and policy,
aviation history, aviation science and engineering, aviation law, aviation
safety and security, aviation medicine, search and rescue, transportation of
dangerous goods, environmental studies and other related fields.
The university is being set up at an estimated cost of Rs. 202 crores in the first phase. The building construction has started. Various formalities like setting up of a Steering Committee, creation of posts of Vice Chancellor and Project Director have already been completed.
