Minister for Railways Inaugurated India’s first High Speed Public Wi - Fi Service at Mumbai Central station 
Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Minister of Railways, Govt of India, inaugurated the Wi - Fi service in a function at Mumbai Central Railway station on Friday, 22nd January, 2016, as a part of an ambitious project towards Digital India initiative by Indian Railways with the help of RailTel Corporation in collaboration with Google. After the inauguration of Wi - Fi service, Mumbai Central station has gained the distinguished status of being the first ever station in India to have high – speed internet facility for its thousands of passengers who travel everyday by trains. 


MPs Shri Arvind G. Sawant, Shri Gopal C. Shetty, Dr. Kirit Somaiya, & MLAs Shri Ashish Shelar & Shri Waris Yusuf Pathan besides Shri S. K. Sood - General Manager of Central Railway, Shri S. K. Pathak - Addl. General Manager of Western Railway, Shri Rajan Anandan - Vice President & Managing Director of Google South East Asia and India, Shri R. K. Bahuguna - Chairman & Managing Director of RailTel Corporation, Shri Prabhat Sahai – Chairman & Managing Director of Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) & Shri Shailendra Kumar - Divisional Railway Manager of Mumbai Central alongwith other senior Rly. officers were also present on this occasion. In the beginning, Shri S. K. Pathak - Addl. General Manager of Western Railway, welcomed all the dignitaries including Minister of Railways.

It’s worth mentioning that the Indian Railway’s telecom arm, RailTel Corporation will provide Internet services as RailWire via its extensive fiber network, in partnership with Google. Designed to offer users the best Internet experience, Railwire Wi - Fi will be available to any user who has a working mobile connection on a smartphone.This is all a part of Western Railways continuing endeavors to provide more and better comforts to its esteemed passengers.

Mahamana Express is the First Train to have a Seamless Run on Electric Traction from Varanasi to New Delhi via Recently Completed Ghaziabad-Moradabad Route 

Regular Run of 22418/22417 New Delhi-Varanasi-New Delhi Tri weekly Superfast Express Train from 25.01.2016 





Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi, flagged off the 02417 Varanasi-New Delhi Superfast( Special Train) Mahamana Express with Model Rake through remote control this morning(22.01.2016) at a ceremony held at Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi.  Shri Manoj Sinha, Hon’ble Member of State for Railways, Shri Thavar Chand Gehlot, Hon’ble Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Kalraj Mishra, Hon’ble Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Shri Krishanpal Gujjar, Hon’ble Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Vijay Sampla, Hon’ble Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises were the dignitaries who graced the occasion. Senior Railway Officers Shri A.K.Puthia, General Manager, Northern Railway and Divisional Railway Manager, Northern Railway, Lucknow Shri A.K.Lahoti were also present on the occasion.

           At Varanasi Cantt end, Shri Sanjiv Garg, Chief Operations Manager, Shri Gyan Prakash, Chief Commercial Manager, Shri Anil Handa Chief Mechanical Engineer, Shri Ghanshyam Singh Chief Electrical Engineer, Shri Ajay Vijayvargiya Chief Signal & Telecommunications Engineer, Shri M.N.Ojha Addl. Divisional Railway Manager, Lucknow of Northern Railway were present.

           In order to bring about enhanced comfort to all classes of coaches, both air-conditioned as well as non-air-conditioned coaches,progressively, the Indian Railways had planned for a Model Rake Project. The new Model Rake developed is a refurbished and re-adapted version of seven types of coaches which have been servicing for the past 10-12 years on Indian Railways. In the design and development of this Model Rake, the Indian Railways had factored in the varied needs of each category of coach to bring in suitable interiors. Some of the special features of the Model Rake include:

·         Modular Panels without visible screws and minimum maintenance hatches  inside passenger area for better safety and aesthetics
·         Use of superior material for panels in terms of toxicity index and fire retardation.
·         Ergonomically designed Ladders for climbing up to upper berths provided in all sleeper coaches.
·         Aesthetically appealing toilet modules provided with enhanced passenger amenities - big mirror, platform washbasin, controlled discharged water tap, odour control system, exhaust fan, LED lights, dustbin inside the toilet to name a few.
·         Shifting of electrical junction points from passenger area to non-passenger area in a centralised distribution board for enhanced safety.
·         Use of e-beam cables and polyamide conduits for enhanced electrical and fire safety.
·         Use of LED Lighting to enhance illumination & service durability while minimizing power consumption.
·         Enhanced scale of light fittings including berth reading lights in GSCN(Sleeper) Coaches and embarking light in all classes of coaches.
·         The scale of mobile/ laptop charging points have been increased in all classes of coaches.
·         LED based berth indicators cum night light for reserved coaches provided to assist passengers boarding train in night.
·         Provision of fire extinguisher in all coaches.
·         Provision of electrically operated chimney in Pantry Car.
·         Stainless steel panelling in Luggage Compartment.

           Speaking on the occasion, Minster of State for Railways Shri Manoj Sinha said that this is also the first train to have a seamless run on electric traction from Varanasi to New Delhi. Indian Railway had recently commissioned the electrification of 140 km Ghaziabad-Moradabad residual stretch on the Varanasi-Delhi route.

           Following the inaugural run of the Mahamana Express, the regular operations of the 22418/22417 New Delhi-Varanasi-New Delhi Tri Weekly Superfast Mahamana Express Train will commence from 25.01.2016.

           The basic fare of Varanasi-New Delhi Mahamana Express (Tri-weekly) shall be 15% higher than the normal Mail/Express basic fares except fares for second class (unreserved) which will only be superfast Mail/Express fare of regular train services instead of 15% higher than normal Mail/Express basic fares.

Revised Fare Structure of Varanasi-New Delhi Mahamana Express 

The Varansi-New Delhi Mahamana Express (Tri-weekly) has been introduced with effect from 22.01.2016 ex-Varanasi. Vide Commercial Circular No.4 of 2016, No. TC11/2910/2016/Mahamana Express dated 20.01.2016 of  the Railway Board, the instructions regarding fixation of Fare Structure of the above train was fixed as under:-
“The basic fare of above train shall be 15% higher than the normal Mail/Express basic fares. However, other charges like reservation fee, surcharge for superfast trains, service tax etc. shall be levied additionally as admissible. All privilege passes/complimentary passes/PTO, warrants, rail travel coupons, concessions etc. as permissible shall also be admissible in this train. Child fare shall be applicable as per the existing child fare rule and revised child fare rule w.e.f. 21.04.2016”.
Now, vide Commercial Circular No.6 of 2016, No. TC11/2910/2016/Mahamana Express dated 22.01.2016 and in supersession of the above instructions, the Fare Rules have once again been revised which are as follows:-
“In partial modification to this office letter of even No. dated 20.01.2016, it has been further decided that fares for second class (unreserved) of Varanasi-New Delhi Mahamana Express shall only be superfast Mail/Express fare of regular train services instead of 15% higher than normal Mail/Express basic fares.
Other terms and conditions shall remain same.”

DG, RPF inaugurates a Workshop of Ministry of Railways With The Heads Of All State GRP To Improve Railway Passengers Security and Amenities 
In order to take strong reformative steps towards Railway passengers’ security and amenities, a National Level Workshop was held today i.e. 22.01.2016 which was inaugurated by the DG/RPF, Shri Rajiva Ranjan Verma. DGP/West Bengal, DGP/Jharkhand, IG/C&I, CSC/NFR and other senior Railway Board Officials, RPF & GRP Officials were present among others. All the State Heads of GRP were also present in the Workshop.

Speaking on the occasion, Director General/RPF, Shri Rajiva Ranjan Verma said that an urgent need of organizing a National Level Workshop was felt in the background of arising threat perception and recent terrorist attack which happened recently in Pathankot. He said that the Workshop is being organized to tackle other crime situations rather than day to day crime incidents. He indicated that the Railway is one of the vulnerable targets because Indian Railways operation areas have open boundaries. He explained that the Workshop is organized to sensitize all the security personnel throughout India to extend a courtesy and assisting behaviour to all railway passengers. He further said that the workshop is organized to synergise the energy where security personnel can supplement and complement each other.

Stressing on the security measures, DG, RPF said that to protect human trafficking GRP and RPF are working in collaboration with each other and security personnel are being sensitize to adopt a passenger-friendly behaviour. He also informed that the RPF is committed to provide best security measures and is using around 400 sniffer-dogs to detect explosive and arms.
