On Raahgiri Day, citizens on a Sunday morning reclaim the streets for fun and enjoyment by temporary closure of network of streets for cars and other public transport. New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has been organizing it in Connaught Place, Dwarka in New Delhi and the concept has been replicated in Gurgaon, Ahmedabad, Bangalore and other cities also. Children and adults on a Raahgiri Day morning (Sunday) typically take part to bike, skate, run and walk; participate in community activities such as street dancing, aerobics and zumba etc. to come together as a community and celebrate life.
With an objective to include the Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and create awareness about their talent and achievements and to create an inclusive society, an idea of having a "Raahgiri Day for PwDs" has been planned.
As per the Plan, on 01.02.2015, Sunday morning, Connaught Place area of New Delhi will be reserved for celebrating "Raahgiri Day for PwDs". It is proposed to invite children and adults with disability for having fun through various activities like wheel chair-basketball, cricket for visually impaired children, music and other kinds of group fun activities. Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (previously known as Department of Disability Affairs,) is organizing the event in collaboration with NDMC, Embarq India with Times India as media partner.
Now, the Department invites proposals from NGOs working with Persons with Disability, based in Bangalore, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad for participating in the Raahgiri program planned in these cities. The tentative dates for the "Raahgir Day for Persons with Disabilities" in these cities will be 81h, 151h, and 22nd February.
NGOs I Associations I Civic bodies working in the sector of disability are invited to send their proposals for inclusion of activities (cultural I sports etc.) in the proposed Raahgiri programmes by sending the following details :
a. Name and content of the Module.
b. Duration of the programme I activities. c. Names of the participants.
d. Logistics and other arrangements required.
