O R D E R:-

             In the letter 2nd read above, the Director, Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences
(SVIMS), Tirupati has informed that all the Medical Institutions in the Country including SVIMS,
have been facing the problem of acute shortage of experienced medical teachers essential for
running undergraduate, postgraduate and super-speciality medical courses as per the stringent
essential experience criteria laid down by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The intensity of
this problem is much more acute in Medical Institutions situated in the backward areas like
SVIMS, Tirupathi. SVIMS is running several super-speciality courses (intake of 27
students/year); broad-speciality courses (intake of 25 students/year) and MBBS courses (intake
of 150 students/year). There is a sustained, consistent, urgent need to have on regular rolls,
faculty doctors, adequately qualified and experienced as per the MCI regulations not to lose the
hard earned MCI permitted/recognized seats. She has requested the Government to enhance
the retirement age of faculty doctors of SVIMS, Tirupati from 60 years to 65 years, on par with
Central Health Service, AIIMS (New Delhi) and all other 6 AIIMS in the country; PGI
(Chandigarh) and other Central Institutions.

2. Government after careful examination of the proposal of Director, SVIMS, Tirupati,
hereby enhance the age of superannuation of Faculty (Medical) doctors working in Sri
Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences, Tirupati from 60 years to 62 years with effect from
02-06-2014 on par with Higher Education Institutions as in the Medical Education.

3. The Director of Medical Education, A.P., Hyderabad and the Director, SVIMS, Tirupati
shall take necessary action accordingly.
