Bangladesh youth delegation calls on the President 
A youth delegation from Bangladesh called on the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee today (October 6, 2015) at Rashtrapati Bhavan.


Addressing delegation members, the President said that he was glad to have the opportunity to welcome the budding minds and aspiring persons from Bangladesh who were looking forward to make their country develop and occupy its rightful place in the comity of nations. The President said that he deeply appreciated that the youth had the vision and dream which they wished to achieve for their country. This motivating force would take them to success.

He said that India and Bangladesh are both part of the Indian sub-continent. Both the nations have a shared history, cultural and linguistic ties. He stated that as the President of India, his first visit abroad was to Bangladesh in 2013. He has always cherished his deep connection with Bangladesh.

The High Commission of India in Dhaka in co-ordination with the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and Government of Bangladesh organizes the visit of Bangladeshi Youth Delegation to India every year since 2012. The exchange programme involves interaction with local youth, visits to tourist and cultural sites and introduction to economic and social activities.

German Chancellor called on President Mukherjee Yesterday 
Her Excellency Dr. Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Federal Republic of Germany called on President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan yesterday (October 5, 2015).

Welcoming Dr. Merkel, the President said India attaches high importance to its strategic partnership with Germany. Her visit reflects the depth of relations between the two countries. Relations between two countries are founded on common principles of democracy, rule of law and tolerance. Germany has contributed substantially to India’s economic development over the years. India looks forward to taking bilateral economic linkages and collaborations to a new level. India believes that Germany can play a significant role as its partner in economic co-operation. India and Germany should work for closer integration of their economies and greater political understanding. There are immense possibilities for improving relations.

The President said bilateral trade between India and Germany was USD 20.33 billion in 2014-15. Germany is India’s largest trade partner in the European Union. It is also a leading foreign investor. He said the year 2015 has been a year of intense bilateral exchanges between the two countries. He expressed hope that the deliberations of the 3rd Indo German Intergovernmental Consultations will help further strengthen the relations.

The German Chancellor warmly reciprocated the President’s sentiments and said India is Germany’s largest development partner. Germany shares common values with India. The world economy remains fragile and the two countries need to work together to stabilize it.
