Indian Air Force (IAF) Undertakes Relief Operations in Flood Hit Tamil Nadu
and Andhra Pradesh
The Indian Air Force helicopters immediately responded to the task of
carrying out rescue and relief operations after incessant rains that affected
Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Surplus water from lakes and nearby tanks
entered residential areas effecting from than 5000 families.
After evacuation of people , today relief material
containing food and water was Air dropped.

Army Colonel Martyred Leading Operation Against Terrorists
Colonel Santosh Mahadik attained martyrdom while
leading his troops in an fierce encounter with a group of three terrorists in
Manigah Forest Area of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir today.
Colonel Mahadik, the Commanding Officer of 41 Rashtriya Rifles made the supreme sacrifice in the highest traditions of the Indian Army. The Colonel was a true soldier and had conducted many successful counter terrorist operations. Originally from the Special Forces, the officer was earlier awarded Sena Medal for exhibiting gallantry and leadership in counter terrorist operations.
Lt Gen DS Hooda, Army Commander, Northern Command has expressed deep condolences on the loss of this brave Commanding Officer. He said , “we owe a deep debt of gratitude to officers like Santosh who lead from the front and are willing to pay the ultimate price in the fight against terrorism.”
Colonel Mahadik leaves behind his wife and two children aged eleven and five years. The Army is committed to providing all support to the family in this hour of grief.

India Russia Joint Military Exercise in Progress
The joint military exercise between India and
Russia, INDRA-2015 is presently underway at the Mahajan Field Firing Ranges
since 08 November 2015. The exercise is focussed towards‘Counter Terrorism
Operations in the backdrop of desert terrain under a United Nations Mandate’.
The exercise is being conducted in two phases. The first phase of combat conditioning and tactical training was completed successfully by the both the contingents. The training received by both the armies in the first week was put into practice in the second phase which is termed as validation stage. Both the contingents jointly took part in the validation exercise which included Clearing of an Axis, Establishment of Observation Post, Cordon & Search Operations and House Clearing Drills.
The aim of the exercise is to achieve inter operability by acquainting with each other’s operational procedures, drills and understand the functioning of each other in such situations. The exercise has strengthened the bilateral relations between India and Russian soldiers - a relation which has stood test of times.

Flood Relief Operations in Chennai
Heavy rains have lashed Chennai and surrounding
areas for past one week. Due to these torrential rains several areas in and
around Chennai have got flooded and inundated.
Tamil Nadu State Government requisitioned the Army in the evening of 16 Nov 2015 for conduct of Flood Relief Operations. Immediately, one flood relief column, with six Boat Assault Universal Type (BAUTS) and two Out Board Motors (OBM) was activated and deployed by 2115h from the Garrison Infantry Battalion located at Chennai. At 0600h on 17 Nov 15 the second column was deployed.
Both Columns are carrying out relief operations at Tambaram and Mudichur areas in Chennai. Till 1600h on 17 Nov 15, the columns had rescued approximately 882 civilians and distributed 350 food packets and water bottles. In addition a medical team has provided first aid and medical assistance to about 200 persons. Assistance was also provided to two civil hospitals (Miot and Global Hospital) for shifting of patients. The relief operations are in progress.

COAS visit to Japan
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Dalbir
Singh is on a four day goodwill visit to Japan from 16 to 19 Nov 15. On arrival
in Tokyo on 16 Nov 15, the COAS was given a warm reception at Narita
International Airport. Later in the day, he called on military dignitaries and
discussed issues of mutual concern pertaining to security and Defence
Cooperation. A Guard of Honour was also accorded to the COAS
by the Japanese Ground Self Defence Force(GSDF). He, later attended an official
banquet hosted in his honour by General & Mrs Kiyofumi Iwata, Chief of
Staff of Japanese GSDF.
Gen Dalbir Singh will also be visiting defence installations and institutions of the Japanese Self Defence Force during his visit including Camp Narasino, Camp Simosizu, Japanese Air Defence School, Camp Fuji and Headquarters of Japanese Middle Army.
