Parliamentary Consultative Committee of Ministry of Coal Reviews Performance of NLC Ltd 
Parliamentary Consultative Committee attached to the Ministry of Coal held its meeting here today and reviewed the performance of Neyveli Lignite Corporation ( NLC) Ltd . The meeting was chaired by Shri Piyush Goyal , Union Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal & New & Renewable Energy and was attended by members of the Lok Sabha Shri Dalpat Singh Paraste, Shri Hari Manjhi, Shri Harish Dwivedi, Shri Kariya Munda, , Shri Lakhan Lal Sahu, Shri Laxmi Narayan Yadav, Shri Rajesh Verma, Shri Ram Tahal Choudhary, Shri Ramchandra Paswan, Shri Ravindra Kumar Pandey, Shri Sukhender Reddy Gutha, Shri Vijay Kumar Handsdak, Shri Vishnu Dayal Ram and Members of the Rajya Sabha Dr. Bhushan Lal Jangde and Shri Dhiraj Prasad Sahu. 


Shri Sarat Kumar Acharya , CMD , NLC Ltd gave detailed presentation highlighting production & Financial performance , capacity additions and on-going & new projects. In his presentation Shri Acharya informed the members that NLC Ltd has moved from an only lignite mining and power generation company to become an energy company now by diversifying into coal based power generation and generation from renewable energy sources like Solar and Wind. Shri Acharya said that they have plans to go for coal mining and coal based power generation in a big way. We have set ourselves a high growth target to be a 19000MW power company (by 2025) with its own fuel security from its lignite and coal mines, he added.

Giving details of Sustainability development projects and Corporate Social Responsibility measures being undertaken by the NLC Ltd , Shri Acharya stated that thrust areas include environment improvement programme such as eco restoration in mines, massive afforestation programmes, rainwater harvesting, waste utilization, and conservation of bio-diversity, effective water and energy management, pollution control, mitigating the impact of climate change. He informed that under Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan , NLC Ltd has constructed 1414 toilets in the schools in Tamilnadu and Rajasthan

During discussion, all members appreciated the overall performance of NLC Ltd especially steps being undertaken for eco restoration and afforestation in NLC mines . Several members stressed the need for their replication in other coal mines areas . The members also asked NLC Ltd to explore installation of solar power plants in their states.

In his response, Shri Piyush Goyal thanked all members for their valuable ideas given during discussion. Shri Goyal assured the Members that NLC Ltd is keen to undertake Solar Power plants where ever land is made available by the State Governments. Shri Goyal requested members to send to him suggestions for maintenance / improvements of toilets constructed by the PSUs of his Ministries under Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan. Shri Goyal also appreciated the efforts undertook by the management of NLC Ltd in maintaining its production during strike period and amicably resolving the issue.

Shri Anil Swarup , Coal Secretary , Directors of NLC Ltd and senior officers of the Ministry of Coal also attended the meeting.
