ORDER:
In the reference read above, the Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, A.P. Hyderabad has submitted a proposal to change the system of use of tooth sticks or charred paddy husk or other material and use of soap-nut for bathing purpose by the prisoners confined in all prisons in Andhra Pradesh duly amending the Rule No.265 and Note (1) (2) & 821 of A.P. Prison
Rules, 1979.
2. Government, after careful examination of the above proposal hereby agree to dispense the age old system of using tooth sticks or charred paddy husk or other material for cleaning of teeth and soap –nut for bathing of the prisoners confined in all prisons in Andhra Pradesh and introduce Tooth Paste and Shampoo Sachet for male prisoners and female prisoners as follows:
TOOTH PASTE :
For Male and Female Prisoners --- Male and Female Prisoners (2) grams per head each day
SHAMPOO SACHE :
For Male Prisoners --- (5) ml per head per week
For Sikh community & Pendis --- (10) ml per head per week
For Female Prisoners --- (10) ml per head per week

After
the enumeration of the prisoners is completed,
they shall be marched to the latrine,
and when they have been given an opportunity
of resorting to it, they shall be marched
to the bathing platform and shall
be
required to wash their hands and faces.
Tooth
sticks or charred paddy husk or other
material in use in ordinary. Indian house-holds
shall be provided for prisoners
for the
purpose of cleaning their teeth.
NOTE:
1. All
“C” class male prisoners shall be given
for bathing purposes 30 gms of soapnut
per head
per week or, when soap-nut is not
is available, the same quantity of soap-nut
powder. For the supply of soapnut powder
to female convicts, see rule 821.
2. For
Prisoners of Sikh community, and Pendis
etc., who are required to keep long
hair on
religious grounds shall given 7 grams
coconut oil daily for dressing the hair and
(15) grams of soap-nut powder
per week
for bath in lieu of items issued in
Note (1)
above:
The hair
of female prisoners shall not be cut
without her consent, except on account
of vermin or dirt or when the
Medical
Officer deems it requisite on the ground
of health and cleanliness, and
than the
hair of such prisoner shall not be cut
closer than necessary for the purpose
of health and cleanliness. They
shall
each be provided with 8 grams of coconut
oil daily for dressing the hair and 15
grams of soap-nut powder twice
a week
for bathing. Female prisoners shall be
supplied with a comb each and be
allowed the use of a looking glass, one in
each cell and one or two in each
ward
being provided therefor.

After

prisoners
for the purpose of cleaning their

NOTE:

Shampoo Sachet per head per week.

3. The Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad, shall take further necessary action, accordingly, in the matter.
